STAR Contributions to the Southeast Atmosphere Study Meeting

Please join us for a Science to Achieve Results (STAR) meeting on the Southern Oxidant and Aerosol Study (SOAS). Registration is free and open to the public.

The Southeast Atmosphere Study (SAS) is a collaboration that brought together resources and facilities from NSF, NOAA, EPA, and EPRI. The SAS is the "umbrella" for the NOMADSS, SOAS, NAAMEX, TROPHONO, and SENEX projects. The field component of SAS, which occurred in the summer of 2013, is the most detailed characterization of the atmospheric composition in the southeast and involved numerous universities and institutions.

This meeting will present an overview of the SOAS campaign and related work with a focus on EPA's involvement. The EPA STAR-funded projects that participated in SOAS involve extensive field, laboratory, and modeling work to investigate the formation, transformation, and radiative properties of organic aerosols.  This body of work aims to improve understanding of the interactions between biogenic and anthropogenic emissions in aerosol formation.  EPA scientists will also present on their measurement and modeling work related to the SOAS campaign.
