RSEI Data and Modeling

Watch an introduction to the air and water modeling used in EPA's Risk-Screening Environmental Indicators (RSEI) model.

RSEI Data & Modeling
  • Modeling Air Releases
  • Modeling Water Releases
  • Modeling Off-Site Transfers
  • RSEI and NATA
  • RSEI Grid and
    Locational Information
The RSEI modeling inputs include several primary datasets:
  • Chemical toxicity data
  • Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) release and transfer quantities
  • Locations for people and facilities

RSEI models TRI chemical releases to air and water releases from TRI reporting facilities, as well as and transfers from TRI reporting facilities to publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) and off-site incineration. RSEI does not model other TRI-reported waste management activities, such as land application or underground injection, or transfers other than those to POTWs and incineration.

With each new version, RSEI updates all years of reporting data, so users can compare RSEI results for different years using the same modeling methodology.
