Detailed Project Information
Description: The Discover Coral Reefs School Program is an educational program that teaches marine science lessons to students all across the globe. As part of our lessons, we teach kids about the sources and quantities of marine debris and the environmental issues trash causes. We inspire the students to make behavioral changes through the lessons, inspiring them to switch to reusable bottles and to stop using plastic straws, for example.
Project Partners: We would like to recognize our current and previous staff members of the Reef Relief Education Department for all of their hard work in creating this program and making it successful.
Current Project Outcomes: Last year, we were fortunate to educate over 10,000 students from all across the world. We held multiple in-person school visits and were able to reach more students through our virtual lessons.
Long-Term Project Outcomes: The long-term outcome of this project is to educate students about marine environments and the threats imposed on them, including marine debris. We hope that by providing children with a well-rounded understanding of marine ecosystems and the organisms in them they will better understand their value and become more passionate advocates for these ecosystems. We hope that the students are inspired to help by engaging in one of our cleanup events or just by reducing the amount of single-use products used at home.
