Description: FDEP Titusville Native Plant Pollinator Garden is a public demonstration native plant garden established in Titusville FL. The goal of the demonstration garden is to encourage implementation of waterway friendly landscaping practices in residential areas to improve quality of runoff in the Indian River Lagoon watershed. The project champion works to bring awareness of the impacts of urban activity on downstream communities through various outreach methods and programs such as educational events at the garden, lectures on the impacts of runoff on estuarine environments, monthly citizen science bee and butterfly monitoring, and garden volunteer workdays.
Project Partners: Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program (funded plant purchases), Friends of the Spoil Islands (citizen support organization)
Current Project Outcomes: From September 2021- January 2023: 374 community service hours
Long-Term Project Outcomes: Greater public awareness and implementation of waterway friendly landscaping practices
