Water Rate Setting and Long-Term Fiscal Planning for Small Water Systems

The Environmental Finance Center at University of North Carolina (UNC) is hosting a finance forum for drinking water systems in collaboration with the EPA's Water Infrastructure and Resiliency Finance Center, EPA Region 4 and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. The forum will help address the financial stability of small water systems while providing safe, quality drinking water at fair rates. Topics include many aspects of financial management and planning of a water system fund including rates and rate setting, controlling costs, planning for capital expenses, benchmarking financial performance, and collaboration between nearby small systems.

Financing the Future of Water Systems: What's Ahead and How to Prepare

The Environmental Finance Center at Wichita State University is hosting a finance forum for drinking and wastewater systems in collaboration with the EPA’s Water Infrastructure and Resiliency Finance Center, EPA Region 7, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Discover ways your system can prepare, finance, communicate, and collaboratively implement water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects!  Drinking water and wastewater utilities from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas will converge to discuss water infrastructure financing strategies, challenges, and successes.

Financing Resilient and Sustainable Water Infrastructure

The Center hosts a series of regional water finance forums. These forums bring together communities with drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater project financing needs in an interactive peer-to-peer networking format to:

  • Hear how communities have made financing decisions with sustainable operations in mind;
  • Network with peers on implementing successful financing strategies; and
  • Interact with experts to discuss local infrastructure financing needs.

Participants include community leaders, decision makers, water systems, wastewater utilities, stormwater utilities programs, technical assistance providers, consultants, and staff from state and federal programs that fund water sector projects or implement water sector programs.
