More About Dioxin Reporting
There are 17 distinct members of the TRI dioxin and dioxin-like compounds chemical category. Facilities that have any of the information required by Form R Schedule 1 must submit individual dioxin member data via Schedule 1, in addition to completing the Form R.
To account for how dioxin and dioxin-like compounds vary in toxicity, EPA calculates weighted values called toxic equivalents (TEQs) using the individual mass quantity data (grams) reported by facilities and the associated Toxic Equivalency Factors (TEFs). TEQs allow for a better understanding of the toxicity of chemical releases at facilities.

Important Notes
- Quantities of dioxin and dioxin-like compounds are reported in grams, while all other chemicals are reported in pounds.
- TRI data only reflect TRI submissions received by EPA from facilities that meet TRI reporting requirements.
- Other facilities in your area may be releasing toxic chemicals but either were not required to report to the TRI Program or have not yet submitted their 2024 data.
- A TRI facility may be managing a toxic chemical for which the TRI reporting threshold was not exceeded, resulting in that chemical not being reported to the TRI Program.
