Subpart X – Petrochemical Production
This page provides resources for subpart X reporters, including implementation information as well as supporting documents for relevant rulemakings.
Summary
Petrochemical production consists of each process that produces acrylonitrile (CH2CHCN), carbon black (C), ethylene (C2H4), ethylene dichloride (C2H4Cl2), ethylene oxide (C2H4O), or methanol (CH3OH), except the following are excluded from the petrochemical production source category:
- Processes that produce a petrochemical as a byproduct.
- A direct chlorination process that is operated independently of an oxychlorination process to produce C2H4Cl2.
- A facility that makes CH3OH, hydrogen (H), and/or ammonia (NH3) from synthesis gas if the annual mass production of either H recovered as product or NH3 exceeds the annual mass production of CH3OH.
- Processes that produce bone black.
- Processes that produce a petrochemical from biobased feedstock.
