    In February 2022, the United States and the Navajo Nation entered into the Phase 2 Expanded Trust Agreement. The Phase 2 Expanded Trust Agreement replaced and expanded the Phase 2 Trust Agreement to manage, administer, fund, and perform EE/CAs and removal actions, as needed, at the 16 AUMs for which RSEs were performed under the Phase 1 Trust Agreement, in addition to RSEs at the 30 additional AUMs and two water studies named under the Phase 2 Settlement Agreement.

    The United States and the Navajo Nation entered into the Phase 2 Settlement Agreement on July 13, 2016 to prepare Engineering Evaluations and Cost Analyses (EE/CAs) and clean up as necessary the 16 abandoned uranium mines (AUMs) identified in the Phase 1 settlement, conduct Removal Site Evaluations (RSEs) at 30 additional AUMs, and conduct two water studies at AUMs. Addendums 1 and 2 include information about the 30 AUMs that will be assessed in the Western, Central, and Northern AUM Regions of the Navajo Nation and the water studies to be conducted at the Claim 28 and Saytah/George Simpson 1 Incline AUMs. Addendum 3 further refines the list of 30 AUMs for which RSEs will be conducted under the Phase 2 Settlement Agreement. Addendum 4 provides funds to prepare EE/CAs for 15 of the AUMs for which RSEs were performed under the Phase 1 settlement.

    The United States and the Navajo Nation entered into a settlement agreement on April 8, 2015 called the Phase 1 Settlement Agreement to investigate 16 priority mines.
