Surface and Source Water Tools

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has developed and supported the use of tools to assess, protect, manage, and improve the water quality of surface and source waters (i.e., those used for drinking water and their contributing areas). The EPA also facilitates access to other relevant tools that can assist with modeling nutrient sources and loads in particular river basins and addressing soil and water conservation needs.

Surface Water Tools

  • Toolkit to Assist States Adopting and Implementing Nutrient Criteria
  • Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) Pollutant Loading Tool
  • Watershed Index Online (WSIO)
  • Recovery Potential Screening
  • Causal Analysis/Diagnosis Decision Information System (CADDIS)
  • EPA Center for Exposure Assessment Modeling
  • Benefits Assessment Tools - Valuing Reductions in Surface Water Nutrient Pollution
  • Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework Tool
  • SPARROW Mappers

Source Water Tools

  • Drinking Water Mapping Application to Protect Source Waters (DWMAPS)
  • FITS: Funding Integration Tool for Source Water
