![]() Title: Confounds of Epigenetic Epidemiology using Cord Blood Columbia University Summary: When looking for prenatal exposure-related DNA methylation changes, it is likely that we are looking for effects of a small magnitude. Therefore, understanding how to account for confounding factors, including the use of a mixed cell population, can improve chances of finding results.
![]() Title: Placental DNA Methylation Linking Exposures and Newborn Health Dartmouth College Summary: Dr. Marsit’s laboratory is focused on the role that the placenta plays in orchestrating fetal development and responding to the external environment, and how epigenetic mechanisms impact that function. In his presentation, he will discuss recent work from his laboratory that identified variation in DNA methylation in the placenta related to prenatal exposure to mercury, and how that DNA methylation could be impacting newborn neurobehavioral development.
