Stormwater Management Implementation Control Technologies

Looking through a concrete stormwater tunnel, surface water lies beyond the exit of the tunnel.

Following a contamination of infrastructure, state and local agencies may need to implement control measures to contain or redirect stormwater. These controls may include, but are not limited to, the installation of sensors to monitor water quality, stormwater modeling to anticipate the fate and transport of contaminants, flow control, and treatment.

EPA is developing and testing technologies to support stormwater management. Some of these devices are intended to be used in response to or to prevent contamination of downstream receiving waters; whereas, others, such as flow control devices and flow monitors contribute to the maintenance of health stream environments.

Technologies and devices tested:

  • Flow Control Devices
  • Treatment Media
  • Innovative Stormwater Monitoring Equipment
  • Portable Treatment Devices
  • Hydrant Flushing and Chlorination
