RSEI Data Dictionary: Aggregated Grid Cell Microdata for States

The following tables provide descriptions for each field in each table. Note that for the Geographic Microdata, "Other Geographies" includes block groups, census tracts, and ZIP code files.  For more information, see the RSEI methodology document and the RSEI Microdata documentation.

Aggregated grid cell Geographic Microdata files include the same data as the disaggregated grid cell files, but the chemical releases are summed over each grid cell. Because the values are summed, unweighted concentrations are not available (the sum of the concentrations of different chemicals would be meaningless). Because the national grid cell files are so large, a set of state-specific files are available. For this set only, cells with no impacts are included; in this way, each state file includes every grid cell within the state, and it can be merged with the national files to extract data for one state from other grid-cell level files. For state shapefiles, a comma delimited text file is not included.

Naming: These files are named as ST_aggmicroXXXX, where XXXX is the reporting year for the data freeze (and the version year), and ST is the state abbreviation. The state files are only produced for the most recent reporting year in each RSEI version.

Users should note that Geographic Microdata file structures and fields have changed for version 2.3.12. Documentation for previous versions can be found on the Geographic Microdata documentation web page.

Aggregated Grid Cell Geographic Microdata for States

Field Number Name Description
1 CELLX X-Coordinate of grid cell.
2 CELLY Y-Coordinate of grid cell.
3 CLAT Latitude in decimal degrees of center of grid cell.
4 CLONG Longitude in decimal degrees of center of grid cell.
5 PRIFIPS 5-digit FIPS code associated with the county in which the largest percentage of the grid cell is found.
6 NUMFACS Number of facilities with releases affecting grid cell.
7 NUMRELEASES Number of individual releases affecting grid cell.
8 NUMCHEMS Number of chemicals with nonzero concentrations for grid cell.
9 TOXCONC Concentration multiplied by inhalation toxicity weight, summed over all chemicals impacting cell.
10 SCORE Risk-related score (surrogate dose * toxicity weight * population), summed over all chemicals impacting cell.
11 EXPOP Population of grid cell, for cells with nonzero concentrations only.
12 CTOXCONC Concentration multiplied by inhalation toxicity weight, summed over all chemicals impacting grid cell, using only toxicity values for cancer effects.
13 NCTOXCONC Concentration multiplied by inhalation toxicity weight, summed over all chemicals impacting grid cell, using only toxicity values for noncancer effects.
