RSEI Data Dictionary: Disaggregated Grid Cell Geographic Microdata

The following tables provide descriptions for each field in each table. Note that for the Geographic Microdata, "Other Geographies" includes block groups, census tracts, and ZIP code files.  For more information, see the RSEI methodology document and the RSEI Microdata documentation.

Tables in the RSEI Data Dictionary
Facility Chemical Disaggregated Grid Cell Geographic Microdata Aggregated Grid Cell Geographic Microdata for States
Off-site MCL Aggregated Grid Cell Geographic Microdata Water Geographic Microdata
Submissions Releases Disaggregated Geographic Microdata for Other Geographies Grid Shapefiles
Elements Media Aggregated Geographic Microdata for Other Geographies Census Crosswalks
NAICS Category Geographic Microdata Shapefiles for Other Geographies Population Data

These are the raw Geographic Microdata files that contain the most disaggregated data available from the model. For each 810 meter grid cell, the file contains scores, concentrations, and toxicity-weighted concentrations for each chemical release. There may be multiple records for any one grid cell. Note that if two releases for the same chemical (either from different facilities or one from a stack release and one from a fugitive release from the same facility) affect the same grid cell, there will be separate records for each release.

Naming: These annual files are names as microXXXX_YYYY, where XXX is the version number and YYYY is the year of the data contained in the file; for example micro2020_2010 is a data file from Reporting Year 2020, based on emissions reported as occurring in 2010. There is one annual file for the entire country, which is over 100 GB in size.

Users should note that Geographic Microdata file structures and fields have changed for version 2.3.12. Documentation for previous versions can be found on the Geographic Microdata documentation web page.

7 FacilityNumber Internal unique identifier of releasing facility
if media = 1 or 2, then lookup in Facility table
if media = 6 or 750 or 754, then lookup in Off-site table
8 Media Code describing media into which chemical is released.
(lookup in Media table)
9 Conc Concentration of chemical for release/media at grid cell (µg/m3).
10 ToxConc Concentration multiplied by inhalation toxicity weight.
11 Score Risk-related score (surrogate dose * toxicity weight * population).
12 CTConc Concentration multiplied by inhalation toxicity weight for cancer effects only.
13 NCTConc Concentration multiplied by inhalation toxicity weight for noncancer effects only.
14 Pop Number of people in grid cell (may be interpolated).
