As governments and policy makers work to address the climate crisis, new requirements for GHG disclosure are taking shape, globally and domestically. California just signed new GHG reporting legislation into law after the EU implemented new CSR reporting rules earlier this year (including GHG disclosure). The Securities and Exchange Commission is expected to finalize new GHG disclosure rules soon. These new layers of complexity are shifting the GHG disclosure landscape. While new rules take shape and are phased-in, companies are redoubling efforts to assess what methodologies, data sources and guidance are available to support their GHG benchmarking and reporting efforts. SmartWay is already being used by many companies to complete their CDP, GRI and other reporting, and should prove useful to meet these new requirements as well.
