Partner Savings Calculator
The WaterSense Partner Savings Calculator
The Partner Savings Calculator (.xlsx) is designed to help WaterSense partners estimate their savings and impact from participating in the WaterSense program. It provides estimates for gallons of water saved, energy saved (in kilowatt-hour equivalency), metric tons of greenhouse gas reduced (in carbon dioxide equivalents), and U.S. dollars saved.
The tool is updated annually and expresses all dollar values in current year values. It includes modules for:
- Manufacturers
- Retailers & Distributors
- Builders
- Utilities, Districts, and other Providers
How Does the Calculator Work?
Water, energy, and utility cost savings estimates for WaterSense labeled products in this tool are prepared using the overall approach of WaterSense's National Water Savings (NWS) model. Savings represent the impact on consumers or users of WaterSense labeled products. They do not account for embedded or lifecycle impacts.
A detailed paper on the NWS approach is available.
Estimates for WaterSense labeled homes follow the approach outlined in the supporting statement for WaterSense labeled homes. Savings for WaterSense labeled homes are estimated using composite national average for homes. This includes an occupancy of 2.6 people and a landscape of 5,826 square feet. These values represent a composite average for homes based on national data, but individual market and builders number can vary substantially. They also use population weighted average reference evapotranspiration to adjust for differing climates and outdoor water use in each state.
The calculations in this tool have been simplified to support ease of use and typically are updated one year behind the current calendar year.
