Using Land Banks to Address Brownfields
The Center for Community Progress is offering free technical assistance services to up to five communities looking to connect land banking with brownfield revitalization:
Communities can apply for up to 200 hours of technical support to:
- Craft and pass state-enabling land bank legislation to help address brownfield properties,
- Create a new land bank to help address brownfield properties in a state with enabling legislation, or
- Help an existing land bank engage in brownfield assessment, remediation, and/or reuse.
The deadline to apply for this opportunity is September 19 at 5 PM ET. Interested communities can learn more and apply here.
A land bank is a public agency with unique powers granted by state laws to acquire, manage and repurpose abandoned properties back into productive uses that align with community goals.
The Center for Community Progress (Community Progress) has developed the following materials, as well as the video above, to support communities interested in using land banking strategies to address brownfield sites.[1] Reach out to Community Progress if you need assistance connecting with land banks, understanding the use of land banks in brownfields projects, or if you are a land bank leader interested in supporting brownfield remediation.
