Our programs reduce emissions from electricity generation to address environmental problems including acid rain, ozone, and fine particle pollution. We track changes in the power sector and comprehensively monitor emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOX), carbon dioxide (CO2), and mercury from power plants. We also monitor air quality and environmental and ecological conditions to assess progress and provide accountability.

  • Learn about the U.S. power sector, its impacts, and how it is evolving.
  • Explore EPA’s emission reduction programs  and our progress protecting human health and the environment.
  • Discover a wealth of public data, as well as tools, interactive maps, graphs, and other resources.
  • Access resources that EPA provides for power plants and others interested in emissions monitoring and reporting, compliance requirements, and administrative processes.
